Time To Head Off To College: 3 Tips That Will Help Reduce Some Of The Work

Posted on

Summer is almost at an end. Time to start thinking about college. If you're going away to college, you need to start planning the move. That can be a daunting task, especially if this is going to be your first semester. Luckily, there are some steps you can take that will help alleviate some of the stress. Here are three simple steps you can take that will take some of the work out of moving to your new college.

Reserve Your Truck

If you're going to be renting a truck for your move, you'll want to reserve it as soon as possible. Don't wait till the last minute, or you might not get a truck. The end of summer is when everyone will be renting trucks and you want to make sure you get the one you need. It's also a good idea to reserve a truck that's slightly larger than the one you think you'll need. It's better to have a truck that's too big than to rent one and have to leave some of your belongings behind because they don't fit. Contact a truck rental company like Elite Truck Rental to learn more.

Sort Everything Out

You're going to want to take everything with you, but that's probably not feasible. This is particularly true if you're going to be living in a dorm. Before you start packing, sort through your belongings. Divide everything into four separate piles. The first pile should be things that you plan on taking with you. The second pile should be things that you plan on leaving behind. The third pile should be things you plan on donating to either charity, or family and friends. Finally, create a pile for the things you plan on throwing away. Sorting before packing will ensure that you don't head off to college loaded down with items you won't need or use.

Get the Proper Service Orders

Whether you're going to be living in dorms or renting an apartment, you need to have your service orders in place before you arrive. Several days before you leave for college, call and arrange to have your services connected. Some of the services you might need will include electricity, gas, water, cable and internet. Check with your landlord to make sure you turn on the right services. Taking care of these issues ahead of time will make sure that everything is ready when you arrive.

Now that it's time to leave for college, make sure that everything goes off without a hitch. The tips provided here will help take the stress out of your big transition.
